Meilleur Ouvrier de France
Meilleur Ouvrier de France

In the 1920’s, some of the best craftsmen of France created an association of more than 200 professions, with the aim of promoting the work of the best artisans in the country.

Every 3 years, being judged by their peers, the winners of regional contests are selected for the last round. The final winners receive the title of “Meilleur Ouvrier de France” or MOF (Best Crafts worker of France).

Among their accomplishments: the crystal dome protecting the Qaâba (The Holy Black Rock) in Mecca, the restoration of the Statue of Liberty in NYC, the model for the Barcelona Opera House, the maintenance of the Elysée Palace tapestry, the National Library books restoration, ...

At L’Ile de France we are very pleased to have the production of 3 of these award recipients:

• Marcel Carbonel for Santons
• Alain Lagorsse for copperware
• Jacques Mongin for knives
