Rat de Cave - Cellar Rat
Called "Cellar Rat" by the French, it was a working tool used in the Burgundy wine cellars. It was used to provide light and also, when held behind a bottle enables the vintner to check for color, sediment and gasses.
• It has a stable flat bottom which catches excess wax.
• The handle, or rat's tail, provides an easy grip which can be hung on a nail or the edge of a barrel.
• The spiral ramp controls the height to adjust for a candle stub or a fresh candle. It is for this thrifty aspect that it was used by the monks of Cluny as early as the year 1000.
• Small - 5.5" high | Large - 8" high
Price & items:
Small Cellar Rat - $65, Small Candle - $2
Large Cellar Rat - $95, Large Candle - $7
